Using ML to Catch Fraud in Live Event Ticketing

During this talk, Kjell Sawyer, Director of Data Science @ Tixr, will discuss novel uses of machine learning, specifically how it is used to catch fraudulent purchases of live event tickets. Chargeback fraud is a massive problem for e-commerce businesses. Using historical ticket order data, several machine learning models are trained and tested to predict which transactions are high risk for chargeback. The results of this work shows that many fraudulent transactions can be successfully identified and stopped before they are processed.

About the speaker

Kjell Sawyer

Data Scientist

Kjell Sawyer is the head of the Data Science department at Tixr, a live events ticketing company in Santa Monica, California. Some of the projects he's worked on are as follows. He builds AI/ML models to detect and prevent fraudulent transactions and block them at the point of sale. He integrates data from various SaaS products that different departments use with internal data stored in MySQL databases to create Business Intelligence reports and dashboards. He consults with clients and builds custom reports to meet their diverse data needs.
